Occupied-Building Construction

Construction in buildings that never stop working

Office towers, shopping centres, industrial facilities and condominiums, renovated while tenants and residents carry on.

Most SquareInch projects run in buildings full of working tenants and residents. We plan after-hours and weekend phasing, contain dust and noise, protect paths of travel, coordinate access with building security, and draft tenant notices for you, so the building keeps working while we build. It is how we work across Toronto and the GTA.

Standard practice, not extras

  • After-hours and weekend phasing planned around tenant operations
  • Dust and noise containment with negative-air protocols
  • Protected paths of travel and hoarding where required
  • After-hours access coordinated with building security: approved crew lists, sign-in and access-card protocols, escorts where required
  • Freight elevator bookings arranged by us
  • Tenant and resident notices drafted and coordinated for you
  • Utility shutdowns scheduled in advance and kept short
  • Clean sites every day, not just at handover

How it changes by building type

Office towers

Containment, after-hours phasing and tenant notices, with work coordinated around building security.

Office playbook →

Shopping centres

Overnight and pre-open scheduling. Noisy scopes run after close, and the site is presentable before doors open.

Retail playbook →

Industrial facilities

Phased zones and off-shift scheduling for dock work and major installations, so the facility keeps moving.

Condominiums

Quiet-hours scheduling, resident notices and elevator bookings, with corridor work floor by floor.

Occupied-building FAQs

Do you work in occupied commercial buildings?

Yes. Most SquareInch projects run in occupied buildings. We plan after-hours and weekend phasing, use dust and noise containment with negative-air protocols, and coordinate tenant notices on the property manager’s behalf.

How are utility shutdowns handled?

Scheduled in advance with your operations team, kept short, and planned so critical systems such as fire alarm and emergency lighting are never compromised.

How do you coordinate after-hours access?

With building security, in advance: approved crew lists, sign-in and access-card protocols, and escorts where your building requires them.

How do you work around condo residents?

Quiet-hours scheduling, dust containment, daily clean sites, resident notices drafted for your property manager, and elevator bookings arranged by us. Corridor work runs floor by floor.

Keep your building working.

Tell us about the building and the work, and we’ll plan the phasing with you.
